Common questions

Does Perk work offline?

Entirely. Perk itself makes no network calls — the plan, the ritual and your history all run on your phone, and purchases go through Apple's App Store. Airplane mode changes nothing.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Settings offers an export, which produces a plain JSON file and opens the share sheet — send it to yourself however you like. On the new phone, use Import on the same screen. There is no account and no sync, so the file is the whole move.

Can I get my data out at all?

Yes, any time, in plain JSON. It is your data; it leaves only when you send it.

What do the marks next to the numbers mean?

The full key is in the app under Learn → How Perk works → The Science.

Why did my plan change after my last cup?

Perk applies one move at a time, so you can taste what that move did. A fix follows the same bag on the same brewer — a new bag starts from your usual cup size, not from another coffee's dose. The live line on the home screen says what moved and why, and the Why sheet shows the reasoning.

What does “Lock this cup as my plan” do?

At four stars and up, you can keep a cup worth keeping. A locked bag-and-brewer pair starts from that cup's setup — cup size, dose, pour shape and grinder click. While it is locked, a later cup's suggested fix is held rather than applied, so one off brew cannot improve your good one away. Unlocking applies the held fix at once.

How do I delete a brew from my log?

Settings → Your brewing profile → the brew → Delete. It asks twice.

Does the bag scan send my photo anywhere?

No. The label is read on your device with the operating system's own text recognition. The photo is never uploaded, never stored and never kept.

Why does my grinder show a click instead of a particle size?

Because almost no grinder maker publishes a setting-to-micron map, and Perk will not invent one. Where a number is not grounded, it shows you the maker's own click targets and says plainly that the starting point is a starting point.

What does Perk cost?

The web version is free to use today. When Perk launches on the App Store it will be free to start, with a full-feature trial of five brews — every method, every number, nothing held back — and a one-time unlock afterwards. No subscription. Your pantry and your brew history stay readable forever, whether or not you unlock.

Which platforms?

iOS is first. Android is planned.

I deleted the app. Can you restore my data?

No, and that is the honest answer: there is no copy anywhere else. An export you made yourself is the only restore that exists.
